![]() In heating seasons, tightly installed cellular shades can reduce heat loss through windows by 40% or more, which equates to about 10% heating energy savings. ![]() Insulated cellular shades can be a good choice if you are looking for significant energy savings from their window coverings, as well as comfort, privacy, and increased home resale value. The air pockets in the honeycomb cross-sections act as insulators, increasing the R-value and reducing the conduction of heat through the window. Insulated cellular shades are typically considered to have the highest R-values of all window coverings. Some can be adjusted from the top, from the bottom, or both. Insulated shades contain one or more air layers in a honeycomb cross-section. Insulated cellular shades are made of pleated materials that are designed to fold up, accordion-like, usually at the top of the window, but sometimes at either the top or the bottom. ![]() Learn more about the benefits, drawbacks, and installation of automated window coverings. They can also offer optimized energy performance. Some companies offer window coverings with automated options, which make them easier to operate, especially those located in hard to reach places. You may also want to try switching the ones that are opened and closed through the day to maximize light and heat from the sun when you want it. For natural light, open those window coverings that don’t get direct sunlight. In the summer, you may want to keep window coverings closed to reduce heat gain. If it’s winter and likely to be sunny, open the window coverings in the morning to allow the sun to heat your home through the day-especially those that receive direct sunlight. Don't fall into this habit - be strategic about which coverings you open and close throughout the day. Most window coverings are operable, and yet 75% of residential window coverings remain in the same position every day, according to a study by the U.S.

![]() The knights attack slowly but they hit like trucks, and some can only be hit from behind. ![]() Some turrets are stuck in place and fire single shots, some move around and fire sweeping lasers, and others fly and can only be hit when they land after attacking. I start by cleaving slimes and blobby things in half, but I soon encounter tougher fare like turrets and stone knights. Moonlighter's weapons are all fun to use, but it's the enemies that really elevate combat. Days are flexible but I can't sell items at night until I hire a part-timer, plus monsters are more difficult and yield better drops in the dark, so night is generally lootin' time. No matter what I choose, time will pass and it'll become night. It's daytime, so I can either open my shop and sell some items or head straight to the dungeons and explore. My demo begins with me waking up in a cozy bedroom in the back of my modest item shop. He's a merchant who wants to be something more, so he moonlights as a hero, braves the dungeons, and sells what he finds while keeping the best stuff for himself. Merchants and heroes flocked to the dungeons way back when, but now the gold rush has died off and most people avoid the dungeons on account of the deadly creatures and dwindling treasures inside. Around 70 years ago, five dungeons popped out of the ground like daisies and there's a whole bunch of mysterious stuff in 'em. Here's the setup: you are Will, owner of the Moonlighter item shop located in Rynoka village. This Western-style knife is one of the most durable, heavy-duty chef's knives we've tested. Though it's durable, this knife is definitely on the heavy side which means it can be cumbersome when tackling repetitive tasks over long periods of time. Make sure to hand wash and fully dry in between each use, and store it in a way that will safely preserve the razor-sharp edge. As a high-end option, we love how easily it achieves paper-thin slices, and the slightly curved blade allows for moderate rocking.Īfter using this knife for many years, our editors can attest to its quality, so long as you care for it properly. The knife is handcrafted with 34 layers of forged stainless steel on each side, forging a flexible blade that is rust-proof, stain-proof, and stick-resistant. The Classic Blonde does not disappoint, as it comes equipped with a birch wood handle treated with resin for extra durability and designed for comfort in both left and right hands. This is a pricier knife that should be hand washed and diligently taken care of.Īs far as Japanese chef's knives go, Shun is an industry favorite that consistently offers sharp, lightweight knives that are durable and sturdy. Whether you need a workhorse chef's knife or a great gift that an aspiring cook will use for years, this kitchen knife is the best combination of a dimpled blade and full tang construction, built for steady rocking across your cutting boards. ![]() The Mac's super-sharp blade is expertly balanced with the handle, so pressure and strain on our hands and wrists was barely noticeable. The Pakkawood handle was easy to grip and felt sturdy in our hands, no matter the material we were working with. We could slice through dense vegetables as easily as soft vegetables, and the blade had no trouble gliding through a sheet of paper or slippery tomato skin. Throughout our tests we found this knife surprisingly sharp, lightweight, and durable. This Japanese-style knife features a thin blade and dimples that help prevent food from sticking. ![]() It's lightweight and sharp, which any serious home cook knows are the two most important factors in finding a reliable chef's knife. Overall, we've been thoroughly impressed by how easily the Mac knife performs in our tests year after year. This knife does not come with a sheath, so make sure to store it properly in order to safely preserve the super-sharp edge. We've found our favorite professional-quality kitchen knives to use, thanks to years of testing in our test kitchens and at home. Before shopping for one, it's important to assess what you'll use it most for and how often, as well as how you plan to clean and care for it. However, a solid chef's knife should always be sharp, balanced, and comfortable to hold, no matter the size. Finding the knife that works best for you depends on the size of your hands, the style of your cooking, and what feels most natural while you chop and slice. ![]() In search of the best chef's knife, we put some of the leading models to the test by chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients.Ĭhef's knives aren't one-size-fits-all - there is no such thing as a truly universal chef's knife. Whether you're an advanced home cook or a novice, having a sharp, durable, and sturdy chef's knife is essential when preparing a meal. ![]() ![]() Sadly, it will likely never see another update again. The most recent version included with Project64 2.x (1.7.0.57-ver5) is somewhat buggy and has regressions, however, so the version included in Jabo's 1.6.1 patch is recommended instead for most cases, though the former can run in LLE mode, which can help with a few games. Very speedy, can potentially look the prettiest due to built-in AA and AF options, and is the only plugin with a widescreen hack. ![]() Jabo's Direct3D - Comes with Project64 and BizHawk's Mupen64Plus.This pack has these four emulators, a few older and special or modified versions, and more obscure and largely irrelevant emulators added only for specific fringe cases, as well as every plugin discussed in this page and more.It is also less accessible than its forebearer, owing to its lack of a native GUI but it also has RetroArch/Libretro port under active development. Its modern, currently active successor is Mupen64Plus, which improves upon the original's compatibility, but chose to depart from Zilmar's plugin spec, rendering it incompatible with the plugins discussed in this page. Even though its last update by its original author was in 2005, it is possibly even more compatible than Project64, particularly with more obscure or less discussed titles, though it has incompatibilities of its own. Mupen64 - An open source, multiplatform N64 emulator.Overall, it is the least compatible of the big three emulators, only being useful for a handful of games. It is generally recommended to stick to version 1.1 except on certain special cases. The last stable version released by the original team was 1.1, who then went on to remake it as a web emulator written in JavaScript, though some community members kept it going up to version 1.2 r146, with mixed results. Some of its iterations (such as 1964 Ultrafast) have the ability to overclock the N64's CPU, which results in smoother framerate on games that have a lot of slowdown, such as Perfect Dark and Conker's Bad Fur Day. 1964 - An open source emulator and long-time competitor to Project64.It is one of the best emulators for general use, with good compatibility with most of the popular games. The interface is slightly clunkier, and switching between RSP plugins is a pain (the desired RSP plugin must be named rsp.dll for the emulator to see it and use it), but timing issues are less severe, it has a more up-to-date RDB at the moment, and many of the later improvements were ported back through Jabo's 1.6.1 patch. Project64 1.6 - The older but more stable version.Still, for general use, it might be wise to stick to either Project64 1.6 or Mupen64 for the time being. It also fixed a number of games that were completely broken in 1.6, such as Kirby 64. However, the user interface is quite a bit nicer and easier to use, and switching between RSP plugins is far easier than in 1.6. Some users have also reported problems with BSODs, which apparently may be an issue with outdated Windows system files. Its RDB is somewhat outdated, and some games have issues with audio and timing regardless of plugin setup unless you mess around with timing settings. ![]()
But what is Immersive Advertising? Immersive Advertising is an entirely new ad format that leverages Immersive Technology while still being able to use today’s current ad channels and ecosystems. Immersive Advertising – It’s been a while since there has been a major technological shift in the ad industry, but the coming of Immersive Advertising has changed that.It can also be used as an ecommerce/shopping tool for real estate and travel (which we will touch on later). Immersive Technology for physical locations doesn’t have to be limited to virtual tours. A company called Matterport does this with their technology where they create detailed immersive experiences of properties that people can view in VR headsets. Virtual tours can also be applied to other industries like real estate, engineering, construction, etc. ![]() Travel brands can even use Immersive Technology to help those who are afraid of riding an airplane or even a boat by using the technology to immerse them in an environment that would calm them down or allow them to think of something else. For example, tourists could be walking around while wearing Immersive Glasses and the glasses point out different historical events or fun facts related to that particular spot – kind of like a virtual tour guide, if you will. It’s the perfect sales tool for travel advertisers.Īnother way that travel brands can use Immersive Technology is by leveraging AR or even MR to highlight certain spots of a destination while people are physically at a destination. It takes the travel shopping experience to a whole new level and also gives consumers a chance to tour a destination before actually booking a reservation. Immersive Technology gives travel brands the opportunity to tap into consumers’ emotions in a way they never could before, while still being able to showcase the amenities and benefits available in their destination. Essentially, it allows consumers to “try out” a product before even buying it. ![]() This enables them to test out how products look with their other furniture or even provide an idea of how big the piece of furniture is going to be. Another familiar example is Pokemon Go where users can walk around their neighborhood with their mobile phones and find Pokemon that are overlaid on the environment around the user.Įven stores like Target and Ikea have their own AR apps where users can choose a product (like a piece of furniture) and place it virtually in their homes. You can even move your phone around and see clouds around you or stars. With Snapchat Filters you can overlay digital images of a puppy, cat, movie star, etc. Instead, AR extends their reality.Ī great example of AR is Snapchat Filters. This means that users who leverage AR aren’t completely shut off from the world. This is why In-VR experiences typically use CGI and 3D modeling.Īugmented Reality (AR) is a different type of Immersive Technology where digital images are presented on top of the real world. This means that when a person is viewing something “in-VR”, they can move closer to an object or move further away and the content adjusts to that. It doesn’t take into consideration depth.In-VR content, on the other hand, does take depth into consideration (it’s stereoscopic). This means that users can use their device to explore content by looking in any direction but the content merely surrounds them. Most of these VR experiences are tethered (cables connecting HMD to computer) but the Oculus Quest 2 offers an all-in-on VR experience that’s wire-free! How’s that for innovation.ģ60 VR content is VR at its most basic. The sensors would then adjust the VR content to whatever is within a user’s environment.īecause True VR uses powerful computers and sensors it primarily uses CGI and 3D modeling for content (more below). These HMDs are so powerful they also leverage sensors (separate from the HMD) that keep track of a person’s movement and their surroundings. Examples of these are the Oculus Quest 2, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Playstation VR, etc. Why “real” or “true”? True VR uses headsets that require very powerful computers or consoles. We’ve even seen cheap mobile VR headsets in retail office supply stores and even in clothing stores!īecause of all the terms that are connected to VR, the term True VR was coined to refer to the “real” Virtual Reality. Some might even consider Google Cardboard as Mobile VR as well. Examples of these are the now discontinued Samsung Gear VR or even Google’s Daydream headset. Mobile VR leverages HMDs that are connected to smartphones. ![]() Red-tailed hawks moult and regrow their feathers most years, but the juveniles experience a major moult that sees them transition from their soft fledgling down to plumage that resembles an adult bird. This is true to an extent, but since Red-tailed hawk plumage is highly variable across the three main morphs and 13 subspecies, there is no one-size-fits-all method to identify a juvenile.įirstly, juvenile Red-tailed hawks are probably defined as post-first-moult birds. Juvenile Red-tailed hawks are generally described as scruffier, or duller than adults. What do juvenile Red-tailed hawks look like? Read on to learn more about juvenile Red-tailed hawks and further tips for identification! Since Red-tailed hawks can range from nearly all-white to dark brown or even black, differentiating juveniles often relies on comparing their size, shape and behaviour vs adults. This is the case across all subspecies and morphs. Light morph juveniles may have darker backs and speckly undersides, but plumage in other morphs is challenging to tell apart.Īnother reliable way to identify a juvenile Red-tailed hawk juvenile is by its iris, which is yellowish for around 1.5 years, then turning red-brown during adulthood. One of the main differences between juveniles and adults is that younger birds tend to have pale brownish tails with evenly spaced bars. There are 13 subspecies, too, so identifying juvenile Red-tailed hawks is a tricky procedure, to say the least - this guide to juvenile hawks will help! Let's discover what really goes on inside the Skull and Bones society, and finally learn the truth. Skull and Bones, also known as The Order, Order 322 or The Brotherhood of Death, is an undergraduate senior secret student society at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. From the initiations and rituals to the practices and the society's deepest, darkest secrets - come with me on this journey. ![]() In this book, we are going to examine this information, and get a glimpse inside this elite social group. But, as with all secret societies, there are those who didn't uphold their promise of secrecy, and have leaked information about the internal practices of the group. Skull and Bones, like all secret societies, has striven to remain out of the public's eye. On Tuesday, the society's secrecy remained intact. Bonesmen swear an oath of secrecy about the group and its strange rituals, which include initiation rites such as confessing sexual secrets and kissing a skull. Are they as bad as some think they are? Do they engage in Satanic rituals and activities? Do they break the law wantonly, without a thought to who they hurt or what consequences they bring? Skull and Bones invites 15 Yale seniors to join each year. With rumors of all sorts of activity surrounding the acts of the society, it can be incredibly difficult to know what to believe. With such an ominous name, people across the globe have questioned the practices, rituals, and beliefs of the members. Additionally, you may use a large bone or skull as a vessel in which you may burn the smudging herbs or incense. You may use a feather from your spirit bird or make a wand that consists of multiple feathers, in order to spread the smoke throughout the space you are cleansing. ![]() The Skull and Bones society, for decades, has captured the imagination of thousands. It was great to be and be part of the liberty work that was involved and it was also an emotional scene. One of my favourite scenes to film was probably the last scene from season eight where Georgie is in the field with Trouble and he charges at her. Do you have a favourite scene from Heartland? Aflame and I are now jumping higher than what I ever expected to be able to do on him so I’m really happy. In the off season I have been very focused on my riding. I also have restrictions on me as far as showing during the filming season – for insurance reasons. During the filming season from May to December I’m lucky if I get to ride three days a week and usually only get one to two lessons in. The thing that I’m most proud of is how far Aflame and I have come together in a short time. It’s really refreshing to see such a firecracker on set. I like him because he isn’t as calm or predictable as the other horses we have on the show. The horse that usually does the jumping stunts is named Conamore. So to answer your question, I enjoy riding the horse that plays Phoenix when he is jumping. There’s a jumper Phoenix, a trail riding Phoenix, a Roman riding Phoenix, etc. There are actually several different horses that play each horse on the show! For example, for Georgie’s horse Phoenix, there are about four different horses with different specialties that play him. I love him so much! Which horse do you enjoy riding the most on Heartland? Aflame is just an all around Steady Eddy. ![]() I can stand on him and I’ve given several little kids riding lessons on him and he’s done great. We’ve only ever done Jumpers together but Aflame has competed Hunters in the past and done incredibly well. We usually school about a 1m-1.25 (3’3-4ft) at home. So far I’ve shown him up to 3ft, but will hopefully be showing higher very soon. He’s super sweet and puts up with a lot of love and snuggles. ![]() Please tell us about Aflame.Īflame is my Dutch Warmblood Pinto Gelding! I bought him in June 2015 and I love him to bits. Then, when I was around 10 I started taking English lessons and fell in love with it. I think that was what sprouted my interest and love for horses. When I was little my grandma had a horse, so when ever I visited my grandparents we would always go out to the barn and I would ride her horse (western). Watching Georgie (and Alisha) grow up has been a treat to watch, from her learning how to Roman ride and getting into all matters of trouble. Georgie has been on Heartland since season six, and has quickly become one of the most-loved characters on the show. Our first guest for Star Crossed Horses is Alisha Newton, who plays Georgie on CBC’s Heartland. ![]() The lyrics “we all feel this way sometimes, gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day” inspire us to persevere when the going gets tough.
